BRAIN ASSESSMENT RESEARCH LAB
Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD
Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Fort Belvoir, VA

We seek energetic, well-organized, detail-oriented, responsible individuals to work as unpaid interns on a longitudinal clinical research project. This work is conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. The research project, directed by Dr. Connie Duncan, involves assessment of brain structure and function in healthy and injured Service Members with mild traumatic brain injury. Patients are followed over time to evaluate clinical outcome, with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Brain indices include event-related brain potentials, neuroimaging, and neurocognitive performance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, scheduling subjects, escorting patients to appointments, data entry, data quality checking, and occasional administrative tasks such as photocopying, test and interview folder assembling, and general cleaning of lab equipment.
Candidates with an excellent academic record, previous research experience and/or experience with Microsoft Excel and data entry are highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment is essential. Candidates who wish to work at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital will need access to a car as it is not easily accessible by public transportation.
This position is ideal for someone who seeks experience in clinical research. We request a commitment of at least 8-10 hours/week during the school year and 15-20 hours/week during the summer months. Interested candidates should send a cover letter, resume, transcript, and completed application by email to the team's Research Coordinator, Dr. Margeaux Auslander, at Margeaux.Auslander.ctr@usuhs.edu.
